Every family has one: a dusty cardboard box at the back of the wardrobe with two words in black texta. Do Not Open. And we all know what happens to a box marked Do Not Open.

This Tuesday on Life Is What Happens we're lifting a few lids. Some should have stayed shut, some flatly refuse to go back on and one was never a box at all. There's a sealed bag nobody looked inside for years, a bang in a driveway that turned into a very handy pay day and a letter from a listener on the other side of the world asking the question many of us would rather leave taped up in the roof. When I was a kid, the rule was that children should be seen and not heard. This evening on Life Is What Happens, I'm lodging a formal appeal.

On the docket: a midnight vanishing act in the outback, a world record most of Sydney drives past every morning, a very modest pay packet that made history and a law with one peculiar condition attached.
