We drove down to Bannister Downs Dairy in Northcliffe to select our 2025 Clementine 23. Each year we aim to get a quiet hand reared heifer calf to take all around WA to meet people and raise awareness of mental health and su***de prevention. Nothing different this year but there was a slight change in the handover staff. Normally we are presented with a beautiful much loved (already spoiled) three month old calf by the team who raise all the newborn calves so the mums can go into the dairy. This time we met “Dusty” Richards who had a big hand in the rearing team and had mustered the mob and drafted three possible calves. All pretty blue roan Shorthorn Friesian cross calves. I was then offered the choice, but why not take all three. More if I wanted. This offer is made every year. I normally just take one. I weakened this year and bought two home and they are now eating, drinking and leading on a halter. Sort of. Our first public outing is in less than a fortnight. The Black Dog Ride Annual One Dayer starting in Busselton on Sunday 16 March. Come along and meet Clementines 23 and 24. Have a pat, take a selfie and enjoy the sights and sounds of a great day.
I should say also it was great to catch up with our generous supporters, Mat Daubney and his father Robert.
