Wedding vows are powerful promises. In fact, you are officially married the moment you exchange your legal vows. If you choose to incorporate personalised vows into your ceremony, it’s normal to feel unsure about where to begin. Given there’s only so much you can say in that incredibly significant moment, my best piece of advice is to focus on the future— what you will do, or will continue doing, for your partner and the life you’re building together.

I’ll take the details you’ve shared with me (where you’ve been, where you are now, and what you mean to one another) to tell the story of your love, setting the scene for you to share your heartfelt intentions for all that’s to come.

MR & MRS VONG— According to their Best Man, these two were “inevitable”. Written in the stars.

Andrew & Linda’s day looked immaculate but, most importantly, the energy was immaculate. From my first conversation with them, I could tell they were focused on what really mattered, trusting their vendors to take care of the rest. In turn, theirs was truly one of the happiest, most surreal weddings I’ve ever had the privilege to be part of.

SUBTLE SIDE NOTE: Sometimes couples decide to share their personalised vows privately, during their first look. Andrew & Linda did just this, and also each chose one line from their personalised vows to read during the ceremony, alongside their legal vows. Such a simple, yet intentional and beautifully romantic touch.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of sharing Jess & Jack’s 20-year love story with 20 of their loved ones, and making their lifelong love official in an unplugged, intimate ceremony.

Jack told me one of his favourite things about Jess is how she always says, “I’ve had such a great day today!”— whether they’ve spent it exploring on an overseas holiday or simply having lunch at home with the kids after a morning at the beach.

Jess and Jack, I hope yesterday was your best “great day” yet.

Since this morning’s post is getting so much love, I thought I’d share another simple & sweet Macedonian wedding custom (and one of my all-time favourite wedding photos— swipe to the end to see 🤍)

With me as your Civil Marriage Celebrant, aside from the essential legal components, the rest of the ceremony is completely ours to shape! I welcome the incorporation of family traditions & cultural elements, in whatever ways you wish. I say it all the time, but the ideas are endless, and my mind is full of them!

One of my favourite Macedonian wedding traditions, for example, is the gesture of, in this case, the Best Man, placing money in the Bride’s shoes before the ceremony (jokingly suggesting the shoes need some money placed in to help them fit. It’s often accompanied by some other antics, like the wedding party negotiating with the Best Man to keep emptying his pockets!) This ritual blends some lighthearted fun with deeper meaning (a symbolic wish of prosperity and good fortune for the couple) which resonates with my own approach to weddings.

Traditions are memories in motion, and I hope you’ll share yours with me 🤍
