A thoroughly enjoyable concert was held last weekend at the lovely Mylor Hall that warmed our hearts despite the cold, wintry weather outside.

It opened with harpist, Suzanne Handel who is a highly accomplished soloist with orchestras around the world. Her performance captivated the audience from the start to finish with her interpretation of well known and loved tunes.

A*O double bass player, Belinda Kendall-Smith joined her on stage to perform 'The Swan', part of an orchestral suite called Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens.

In the second half of the concert, Dr Fez and The Usual Suspects entertained the toe-tapping crowd with a very polished performance. Songs played in lively 'Gypsy swing' style.

Their line up of fine musicians included a rhythm guitarist, violinist, double bass player and singer. The finale got people hopping on the dance floor when all performers got on stage for a rendition of “I’ll See You in My Dreams,” which paid homage to Django Reinhardt.

It was fantastic for Mylor to enjoy such a high-quality event, where the community had a chance to experience the joy of live music!

Suzanne Handel
Until her recent retirement, local Mylor resident Suzanne Handel spent most of her life in the classical music world.

She was a Juilliard Music School graduate at a very young age, a winner of many international harp competitions, soloist with orchestras around the world, and Principal Harpist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra for 29 years.

But this is not a Classical Music concert!

Suzanne is now following her heart by playing music she loves, arranging her favourite tunes for harp, and just having a damn good time!

Dr Fez double bass player and former A*O colleague, will also join Suzanne for a duet.

Dr Fez
Dr Fez is not so much a jazz band, but rather a collection of four musicians who love to swing fabulous tunes from the 30’s through to the 70s, whether they are jazz hits or popular tunes of those eras. Suzanne will also join Dr Fez for the concert finale.
