As the weather cools down, there's nothing better than a big pot of homemade Sarma warming the kitchen.
This is my favourite quick, easy and budget-friendly version of this much-loved Croatian classic. It has all the comforting flavours of traditional sarma but comes together with simple supermarket ingredients and is perfect for busy weeknights or feeding the whole family without stretching the budget.
Packed with tender cabbage, a rich tomato broth and hearty beef and pork mince, it's the kind of meal that tastes even better the next day.
If you've always wanted to try making sarma but felt it was too time-consuming, this recipe is for you.
Save this recipe for your next cold evening, share it with someone who loves comfort food, and let me know did your family grow up eating sarma too?
This is also your very friendly reminder to get creative and use whatever pantry staples you may have lying around. You can use bay leaves, stock cubes instead of liquid, beef only or pork only mince there is no pressure to spend hours searching for these ingredients if your local store does not have them. With this base you will sure create something special!
