🍵𝐓𝐞𝐚 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐬 💛

Michelle & Jonathan started their wedding day with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, a meaningful way to honour their elders and celebrate their heritage.

During a tea ceremony, the couple serves tea to their parents and elders as a sign of respect and gratitude. In return, the elders gift blessings in the form of red packets, gold bracelets, and gold jewellery, symbolising prosperity, love, and family support.

It is also one of the most emotional moments of the wedding day.

Watching your parents see you all grown up, dressed in your wedding attire, kneeling before them and offering tea with both hands… it is a moment that often brings tears to everyone in the room.

And once the parents start crying, the waterworks usually follow (and how could you not when your parents are crying 🥹)

Amidst the exchange of tea, blessings, and tears of joy, we arrived at the bracelet moment. As the parents carefully placed the gold bracelets onto the bride, we witnessed a quiet battle between fingers and bracelet.

After a good 20 seconds of trying, the mother of the groom burst out laughing and said,
“Never realised how complicated the bracelet locks could be!”

And just like that, the entire room of relatives burst into laughter.

That is the beauty of a Chinese tea ceremony, and exactly why I love hosting this moment for my couples.

It is emotional, meaningful, and deeply rooted in tradition, but also full of real, human moments that make the day unforgettable.

Hi, it’s Yo Zi, your Celebrant and MC!

Celebrating the start of my 10th year in the wedding industry, and my 3rd year as a full time celebrant & MC with these photos… and a re-introduction to all of you, old friends and new!

1. The name is Yo Zi, pronounced “yoh-zee”. I also answer to 优子 in Mandarin and ゆうこ in Japanese.

2. I’ve been hosting weddings since 2016, and I still get teary during vow exchanges. There’s something incredibly magical about witnessing two people say, “I choose you”.

3. I speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese and French, and I’ve also picked up Korean and Spanish along the way.
I help couples celebrate their love by bridging languages, cultures, and generations.

4. Many of the couples I work with are planning cross cultural weddings, where families, traditions and languages come together. My role is to make the entire room feel included, because C is for Celebrant, Celebration and Connection.

5. I started my creative career as a musician, and worked extensively in stage productions and musical theatre, building strong stage presence long before entering the wedding industry. Which is why…

6. … These experiences taught me how to hold a room with calm confidence, guide the energy of a crowd, and stay composed under pressure, so you can be fully present on your day.

7. At my core, I have always been a storyteller. My favourite part of every ceremony is sharing your story in a way that feels natural, deeply personal, and 100% YOU.

8. Because the best ceremonies, in my opinion, should feel effortless, heartfelt, and filled with moments where you and your guests laugh, tear up, and feel genuinely connected. Almost like a grand gathering!

9. My role goes beyond celebrant and MC. I’m also your translator, timekeeper, calm conductor, moments maestro, and a steady presence making sure everything flows seamlessly.

10. At the end of every wedding, I remind myself of my motto: celebrate love, celebrate you.
That glimmer in your eyes will male me go “happy couple, happy me”!

“HELP, I’M STUCK ON MY VOWS!”

This is one of the top FAQs (or SOS signals) I get from my couples.

If this sounds like you, stress not. As a wedding celebrant, I can tell you this sense of feeling lost and stuck is far more common than you think. And yet, I truly believe vows play an important part in telling your love story on your wedding day.

Here are 10 prompts to help you start putting your feelings into words 😉

❓What tips do you want to see next?
