🌸As your marriage celebrant, I can tell you that getting married doesn't require a massive event...all it truly takes is the legal minimum to make it official.
🌸What exactly is a "Legals Only" ceremony?
Think of it as the ultimate "un-wedding". It is a short, relaxed meeting, often taking less than 10 minutes, focused entirely on the legalities required by Australian law. We say the required legal words, sign the paperwork, and you leave as a legally married couple. 👍🥰🕶
🌸What is included?
Lodging your Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) at least one month before the date.
🌸I will recite the Monitum (the legal definition of marriage in Australia).
You both repeat the short, mandatory legal vows. 📖
🌸You, myself, and your two witnesses (aged 18 or older) sign the certificates.
🌸I submit everything to Births, Deaths and Marriages to make it official. (There is a fee from BDM of $70 for a standard Official Marriage Certificate..needed for name changing). 🖊

🌸They say the first year in business is the hardest. For an Authorised Marriage Celebrant, that old cliché carries a very specific weight. You aren’t just launching a startup or selling a standard product; you are building a brand out of your own personality, navigating strict federal legal frameworks, and trying to convince couples to trust you with one of the most monumentally important days of their lives.When you first receive your authorization letter from the Attorney-General's Department, it feels like a victory—and it is. But as the initial excitement fades, reality sets in.
🌸Suddenly, you aren’t just a celebrant; you are a marketer, a website designer, an accountant and a salesperson.
🌸The first year is uniquely challenging for a few distinct reasons...The "Ghosting" and the Hustle. Every sole trader experiences the sting of a dry pipeline, but the wedding industry has a unique hurdle... you do not get repeat business from the same people. Every client journey is a one-time partnership. In the beginning, you will find yourself pouring your heart into enquiry emails, only to face the inevitable silence of being "ghosted." If your parents or yourself attended a wedding during the 70s, 80s, 90s or early 2000s there was a fair chance they came home carrying a little satin or tulle bag filled with sugared almonds.

Known as bomboniere, this European tradition was especially common at Italian and Greek weddings before becoming a familiar sight at Australian celebrations of all backgrounds.

The little bags were usually tied with ribbon and filled with five sugared almonds, traditionally representing:

Health
Wealth
Happiness
Fertility
Long life

White almonds were commonly used for weddings and communions, pink or blue for baptisms, red for graduations, and silver or gold for anniversaries. At Australian weddings, though, it wasn’t unusual to receive a colourful mixture. Sometimes they even came inside an elaborate little keepsake box.

Some families still continue the tradition today, but many modern weddings have replaced them with personalised gifts, candles, chocolates, miniature bottles and just about anything else you can imagine.

Still, nothing hits the nostalgia button quite like discovering one of these tucked away in a drawer decades later… usually with the almonds still inside!
