You two were the absolute coolest! From the moment I met you, so long ago now, I knew it was going to be a really special wedding, filled with so many special moments and beautiful things.

You were the perfect couple to work with. So chilled and relaxed. For you it was all about love, about your families having the best time, and enjoying the day to the max. I felt that from you the whole way through the journey, and on the day itself. And on top of it all, you were the most organised bride, Isabella, which made my job a breeze.

I’ll be forever grateful I got to marry you surrounded by all your beautiful family and friends. The gorgeous pastel bridesmaids, Luca as ringbearer, and Bobby and Paulie as the best vow boys ever.

I could wish you a love-filled, wonderful life ahead, but I know you already have it. Your wedding was just the cherry on top of an already beautiful love, one I have no doubt will only keep getting stronger as the years go by.

Happy first anniversary, Greg and Christina.

One year ago today you married at the stunning and iconic Palm Beach. The sun was so bright I felt a little guilty asking the groomsmen to take off their sunglasses, the live music floated across the park, and I very nearly married Christina to Zeus instead. (Sorry again, Greg.)

One of my favourite parts of your ceremony was telling your proposal story. A little wooden boat on a lake in the Dolomites, a ring Christina had spotted on day two of a long European holiday, and a yes so enthusiastic it nearly tipped the boat. I’m so grateful you trusted me to tell it, and to be part of your day.

I hope year one has been full of perfect pink rosé, Bronco wins, new raps about Zeus, and plenty of cuddles with his little sister, Frankie Rose. Your family of four suits you.

Sending so much love to you all for another year filled with love and joy and all the best things.🤍

Happy first anniversary, Jessica and James.

One year ago today you married in a quiet reserve at the Spit in Mosman. The sun was out, the water was sparkling like diamonds, and your guests arrived early because they couldn’t wait to celebrate you. Catching their pre-ceremony wishes for you on video was a highlight.

One of my favourite parts of your ceremony was your mum and dad walking you down the aisle, Jessica, and then the four of you together afterwards, sharing a very emotional moment. They had travelled all the way from China to be there, and the pride and joy were written all over them as they sent you into your new life with James. Walking with them to Zest after the ceremony, chatting the whole way, was its own small gift.

I hope year one has been full of Overcooked, It Takes Two, Lego, classical music and singing in the car. And not too many dine and dashes … but if there have been, your secret is safe with me.

Sending so much love to you both for year two.🤍

Michael and Mayuree,, thank you for trusting me with your special day.

Your wedding at Forresters Beach lookout was the most intimate celebration and the most spectacular view I’ve had in a long while. A small handful of friends and family. A ch*****ne tower that somehow survived the wind. Native flowers only, thanks to the national park, and a
florist who made that look like the plan all along. And you, looking exactly as I knew you would.

Taking care of the booking, the permits, the council and the rangers was my pleasure. It meant the only thing left for you to do was turn up and get married.

I wish more couples knew this was available to them. In Australia we are spoiled for choice: beaches, lookouts, mountains, national parks. The list really is endless. You don’t need a venue to have something elegant and spectacular, and keeping it simple is often what makes it
meaningful. The two of you more than proved that.

I’m still smiling. I’d do it all over again.

The most adorable pit stop.

This couple already had two children together, and it mattered to them that both were part of the ceremony. Their eldest prepared and delivered a speech. Little Boston, not quite ready for public speaking, took on ringbearer, and made his entrance down the aisle in a remote control car.

When children are part of a ceremony, you have to be ready for them to perform, or not perform. That’s why it matters to have a celebrant who is chill and can navigate delightful chaos, with adults and children alike.

We planned for every version of it. What if he didn’t want to get in the car? What if he cried the whole way down the aisle? So we set him up to succeed: someone he knew well beside him during the ceremony, and when it was time to drive, his favourite song, the one that always
makes him dance.

He was perfect. Facing backwards instead of forwards, which turned out to be the better plan anyway. Better view for the guests, better angle for the photographer.

As your celebrant, my job is to make sure every element of the ceremony flows. Smoothly doesn’t mean perfectly. It means that when your babies, human or fur, are part of the story, their moment is woven in properly, and the ‘uh-oh’ moments become the ‘aww’ ones.

Whoever matters to you, and whatever matters to you, we’ll find a way to include them. Meaningfully, or just for the fun of it.

Almost everything about a wedding day is temporary. The flowers, the food, the dress that hangs in a wardrobe afterwards.

The rings are the exception. They stay on your hands for the next sixty years (or more), which makes the inside of the band the perfect place to keep something that’s entirely and uniquely yours.

Here are a few ideas.

💙 Traditional
Your new initials, as a monogram
Your wedding or engagement date
The date, or the place, you first met

💙 Romantic
I choose you
All my days
With you always

💙 In another language
Je t’aime — French, I love you
Semper amemus — Latin, let us love always
Amore mio — Italian, my love
Myn Genyst — Old German, my heart

💙 Playful
A perfect fit
You’re stuck with me
Non-refundable

💙 Split across the two rings
To have / To hold
To infinity / And beyond
Grow old / With me
I love you / I know

The best ones are usually the ones you’d have to explain to anybody else. A word only the two of you use. The question one of you asked and the answer the other gave.

If you’ve engraved something inside your wedding rings, I’d love to know what it says.
