I listened to a brilliant episode of on the 'top five regrets of the dying', as quoted by a palliative nurse - Bronnie Ware, who wrote a book on the topic.

We discussed the points heavily in my most recent death cafe, but I thought I'd share them here for you to now ponder.

If any of them are setting off alarm bells, perhaps now is the time to consider making changes...?

Just remember, it's never too late and if my work has taught me anything, we have no idea when our time is up so.. get onto it!

Last night's death cafe was even juicier than normal, with the topic coming from another fantastic episode of

Top five Regrets of the dying...
According to Bronnie Ware (Palliative care worker and author)

1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life that others expected of me.
2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
3. I wish I had the courage to express my feelings.
4. I wish I’d stayed in touch with my friends.
5. I wish I had let myself be happier.

We went through the list together and discussed the ones that affected us the most and least and ended up running overtime in our enthusiasm.

How do you feel when you read that list?
Which ones trigger you?

At last night's death cafe we discussed where you would like to die.

Between us, we're on the beach, under a big oak tree and surrounded by dogs... with a couple of cat-lovers choosing the alternative.
Either way, most nominated for home or in nature.

Ahhh to be able to choose eh.

But maybe there will be the chance and if so, it's good to have thought about these things and discussed them NOW, before the time becomes too relevant.

I also read the group an excerpt from a brilliant book I'm loving - Tuesdays with Morrie by and we discussed it heavily.

If you haven't read it, do it... do it now!!!

Another cracking South Side Death Cafe's conversation with the topic of the night being:

'What do you NOT want at your funeral?'

Answers included everything from formal chapels, to a hearse to anyone attending at all.

How about you?
What do you NOT want at yours?

A full house, 15 on the waiting list and the topic went deeeeep... just how I like it.

What an incredibly generous, patient, emotionally mature and open group of people.
I feel eternally grateful to be part of something so special.

Massive thanks to Lulu and St Kilda Library for allowing us to call your space home!
