Newcastle Wedding Photographer Jarret Schubert Arrested for 'Manslaughter' After Allegedly Killing Every Couples Session in 2026
NEWCASTLE, NSW â Authorities announced Tuesday that local wedding photographer Jarret Schubert has been arrested for "photographic manslaughter" after allegedly killing every couples session he photographed.
According to investigators, Schubert left behind a trail of absolutely unreal images, causing fellow photographers to question their careers and engaged couples to rethink what wedding photography should actually look like.
"We've never seen anything like it," said one couple. "Every locationâwhether it was a back alley, Newcastle Beach, a random paddock, or the side of a brick wallâended up looking like it belonged in Vogue."
Witnesses claim Schubert was armed with nothing more than a camera, an off-camera flash, and an unhealthy obsession with perfect light.
"We thought he was just taking photos," said one anonymous groom. "Then we got the previews. My fiancĂŠe cried. My mum cried. Even our celebrant asked if they could update their website with them."
Police say the evidence was overwhelming, with memory cards containing hundreds of "killer shots" featuring dramatic lighting, genuine emotion and suspiciously perfect golden-hour timing.
Schubert now faces multiple charges, including:
First-degree destruction of boring wedding portraits.
Possession of excessive creativity.
Intent to make other photographers say, "How the hell did you shoot that?"
Aggravated use of off-camera flash.
Reckless endangerment of wedding photography standards across Australia.
If convicted, Schubert could face a lifetime sentence of teaching workshops, judging photography competitions and answering, "What camera settings did you use?" at least 37 times at every wedding.
The investigation remains ongoing, though experts believe there may be no actual victimsâonly extremely happy couples with wedding albums they'll be showing off for the next 50 years.
