CopaThrilla is DOA

CopaThrilla is Dead On Arrival due to some strange spookiness! You’ll recall we were organising a free kids halloween party at the Surf Club. Unfortunately, the council became concerned CopaThrilla was masquerading as a large illegal beach rave. Acting on this concern, they contacted the Surf Club, advising them to cancel our kids Halloween party as it may endanger the children. You can’t make this stuff up! Well, you can if you work for the council.

Anyway, we wish to recognise the Surf Club as having being broadly supportive here - offering the venue for free and putting on bar staff and a food truck. And we guess if the council advised you to cancel this kids party, well you’d probably do the prudent thing and follow their guidance. Which they did, admittedly after trying to make sense of the whole fiasco.

So it comes as a great shame we announce the cancellation of CopaThrilla. The kids of Copa won’t get to experience this EPIC
party we’d planned. And we not talking about a sad little disco with jelly & ice cream- we’re talking a giant spider with laser eyes, an ASMR immersive entrance, cutting edge KPop DJs and performers. Come on…laser eyes! And we’re pretty sure the good people of Copa would have bought their A-game to this family event. �

Anyhow, it was just a kids party, best to move on.

COPACHILLA PERMANENTLY CLOSED

As you may know, some Copa locals have recently congregated on the beach to chat, listen to music and share a drink at a pop-up event called CopaChilla. These meet-ups were attended by kids to grandparents from all walks of life, with no commercial element, no alcohol sold and completely free to all.

The events were professionally run, fun, respectful and with a dedicated group of local volunteers ensuring the beach was always left impeccably clean and received ZERO complaints from residents.

This was the Copa community at its best, finding the time and effort to create a carefree vibe within this slice of paradise that we call home. Unfortunately, to make applications to do this formally on the beach under state regulations is practically impossible and would certainly require each event to be ticketed to cover the onerous compliance costs.

As locals we felt CopaChilla was a common sense approach to celebrate with our friends on the beach in the village in which WE LIVE. Indeed local neighbours, shop keepers, the surf club and the men’s shed were all in lockstep behind us.
Unfortunately 1 person disagreed.

It would be unkind of us to name and shame this person here, but he trolled us on social media using fake accounts and subsequently made a formal complaint to the council to have us shut down. Unfortunately the police were involved and we were notified we would be arrested and our equipment seized. The police made it clear they did not want to get involved, but as a formal complaint had been raised by council they were duty bound.

It is a shame that one person’s self-righteous fixation to the rules overcame common sense.

It is upsetting that a simple pleasure has been taken away from our friends, family and community.

We are astounded that an individual would take time to actively destroy something that genuinely benefitted the community, purely in the name of compliance. We understand from the council this individual has raised repeated objections on other issues in the past. We think this person needs a hug.

As a result we will permanently close our doors.
We’re obviously devastated and we think this is a loss for the whole of Copa.

There are too many people to thank here for stepping up to the plate and rolling up their sleeves and it has been heart warming to see the community come together in such a magical and selfless way.

Wow, that was EPIC!

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who came together to make CopaChilla so unforgettable. From the incredible DJs and volunteers to each one of you who danced, chilled, and soaked up the good vibes — Copa, and the Central Coast, have the best community, hands down.

This event wouldn’t be possible without your amazing support. CopaChilla is a community-powered event, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life!

The CopaChilla season opener is officially happening tomorrow, October 19 at Copacabana Beach from 4 PM to Midnight! 🌊🎉

We’ve got something extra special lined up for you—DJ Soleil, .musique, Foxton, and Butters will set the sunset vibes and take you into the night, bringing those smooth, beachy sounds to keep the party going until the stars come out! 🎶🌅

Grab your complimentary welcome drink from 4 PM to 6 PM and after that, you’re free to bring your own and keep the good times flowing. 🍹
