We all know that some of our best ideas often come from having a chat over a cuppa at the kitchen table. For 24-year-old Ally Finlay and her mum Janine, it was the prospect of drought settling in that prompted them to start brainstorming new revenue streams for their family farm, Verona. Located 55 kilometres west of Stanthorpe on Queensland’s Southern Darling Downs, the Finlays run 1500 Dorper sheep and a handful of Droughtmaster cows on the 3,643-hectare mixed grazing property, but now they are moving into tourism — Verona Country Escape. The Finlays have opened the gate to this beautiful working sheep station to paying guests and offer guided bush walking, yoga sessions, paddock picnics and winery tours. Today in the Graziher Weekly, Ally chats to us about the journey. ⁠
