Caleb's holidays are at an end and he's heading back home to full-time quizzing in beautiful Brissie. But with a question about Graffiti on this week's quiz, he snuck in a last minute visit to London's east end to check out the famous graffiti walls of Brick Lane in Spitalfields.

What's the origin of the word "Graffiti"? That's what you need to check for your homework this week. Of course, it shares the "graph" root indicating it's related to writing, but the original Italian word was slightly more specific than that, alluding to the earliest forms of graffiti in history.

Massive thanks to Emily and Rebecka for holding the fort to keep all four venues running while Caleb was away on his first real holiday in over a decade! Emily will continue hosting at White Lies as normal, but Caleb is keen to get back on the mic and return to hosting at Carindale, Chelmer and Kenmore.

This week's Homework Headstart question brings you some history and classic literature direct from the quiet and sunny countryside of Hampshire, England.

Whilst Caleb is still jaunting around in foreign lands, our four weekly quiz venues will still be on for you this week offering a test of your knowlege on topics including Space and Television. Plus, as Caleb the quiz-writer is celebrating his birthday this week (in Paris, no less!), he's thrown in a round about birthdays.

Scoregate! 😱

One of our hosts reported some upset with the scores at a quiz this week. We've investigated and traced the issue to a bug in the system that caused a team to be credited 70 points for a certain answer instead of 10. There was an allegation that the winning team had applied their Doubler twice, but this was not the case.

Regrettably it's now too late to amend the standings and prizes. We apologise to all who may have been affected, but I'm making this statement publicly so that our valued teams know that the issue was one in the software and scoring, and was not at all related to any team's conduct; there was no cheating or any sort of foul play. The team who was declared the winners were not aware of the scoring error, and are not to be blamed for the mistake.

We'll double-check the quiz programming for next week to avoid a repeat of this unfortunate accident. And if you're not already a die-hard HIMYM fan, this is your forewarning that it might be wise to study up on how many seasons the show ran for.

September already!? That means well over 1,650 questions have already been asked and answered so far this year, but there's plenty still to come. Like this week's Homework Headstart question...

Which breed of dog was kept as a pet by prolific people including Albert Einstein, Charles Dickens and King Edward VII, and seems a perennial favourite of authors having been owned by the likes of Agatha Christie, Thomas Hardy, Vincent Korda, and Karel ÄŒapek?

(You know, once upon a time it would have been actual homework to spend a few minutes looking up some of these people and identifying the commonality; it's almost disappointing that intelligent web searches today make this a 5-second copy/paste into Google to find the answers...)
