When a dad wants to be involved, the spaces around his family should make that easier.

Sometimes that’s as simple as addressing him directly, including him in an update or remembering that he might be the person organising the appointment or doing the school run. Every family has its own arrangements, of course.

This is the kind of change Dad Mode wants to see: dads treated as capable, welcome and important from the outset. It shouldn’t have to be a big deal.

It's 11pm. The house is quiet. And somewhere across Brisbane a dad is typing something into Google that he'd never say out loud 👀

"What age does puberty start for girls."

"What do I say if my daughter gets her first period at my place."

"How do I talk to my daughter about her body without making it weird."

"What are the different types of period products."

No judgement here. We know because dads tell us.

And because the questions that come up in our sessions are almost always the same ones - the ones that felt too small to ask a doctor, too awkward to bring up with a partner and too important to just hope never comes up on your watch.

The confidence gap isn't about not caring. It's about never having been given the information in a way that actually felt useful.

That's exactly what Be Ready Before She Needs You is built around. A practical two-hour session for dads who'd rather feel prepared than caught off guard - covering puberty, periods and what genuinely helpful support looks like when your daughter needs you.

If you've ever thought "I should probably know more about this" - this one's for you 💬

Be Ready Before She Needs You is for dads, stepdads and father figures who want to feel more confident supporting their daughters through puberty and periods.

Particularly relevant for dads of girls aged 7–14, but no previous knowledge needed and no requirement for your daughter to have already started puberty.

It's also very deliberately designed for single dads and separated parents - because sometimes the moment happens at your place and you shouldn't have to panic or call someone else to know what to do!

Come on your own or bring a mate. Two Women's Health Registered Nurses, a relaxed setting and genuinely useful information for a moment that matters.

There's a dad out there who came to Braids + Beers a few months ago not knowing a single person in the room 💬

He'd seen it online, thought it looked interesting and quietly talked himself into going. He wasn't sure he'd be any good at it. He wasn't sure if it would feel a bit awkward. He came anyway.

Two hours later he was standing next to a guy he'd just met, comparing plaits on a mannequin head and laughing about how much harder it looked than it actually was.

He's not unique…

That's pretty much the story of every dad who's walked through the door!

Over 150 of them now. Different suburbs. Different stages. Different reasons for showing up. But the same thing happening in the room every single time - a group of dads who arrived unsure and left feeling more capable, more connected and quietly glad they came.

That's the part of Dad Mode we don't talk about enough.

Something happens in the room at every Braids + Beers session 💬

They nearly always arrive a little unsure.

A bit quiet.

Working out where to stand and whether they're going to be the only one who doesn't know what they're doing…

Then the session starts and something shifts - the concentration kicks in, the focus comes out and the room goes quiet in the best possible way.

By the end, dads are showing each other photos, comparing techniques, asking the guy next to them how he did that bit. The room feels completely different to the one that walked in an hour earlier.

One dad at our last Future Magic session spent the whole afternoon sending photos of every hairstyle he learned to his wife. Not because they were perfect. Because his daughters were waiting at home to see how Dad was going!
