I want to share something personal with our community today. 🙏

When I first moved to UAE, I tried to plan a celebration for our Ethiopian community here. I spent weeks calling venues, caterers, and event planners.

Every single time, I had to start from scratch explaining our culture. Nobody knew what injera was. Nobody understood the significance of the coffee ceremony. Nobody had experience with habesha weddings. I was handed the same generic event package that would be given to anyone — completely disconnected from who we are.

I remember the feeling of frustration. Not just the practical difficulty, but something deeper: the feeling that our culture was invisible here.

That was the moment Ethio VIP Events was born.

We built this company for one reason: so that Ethiopians and Africans in UAE would never have to settle for something that doesn't feel like home.

Are you planning an event in UAE this year? Before you book anything, please read this. It could save you thousands of dirhams and a lot of stress.

After planning over 100 events across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, here are the 5 most important things our clients wish they had known earlier:

1. LOCATION IS EVERYTHING
Choose a venue that is central to where your guests are. UAE traffic is unpredictable. A stunning venue that is difficult to reach will have guests arriving late and leaving early. Accessibility beats aesthetics every time.

2. CONFIRM THE EXTERNAL CATERING POLICY FIRST
Many UAE venues have exclusive partnerships with in-house caterers. If you want authentic Ethiopian or African food at your event — which you absolutely should — confirm that the venue permits outside caterers BEFORE signing any contract. This is a very common and costly mistake.

3. PARKING MUST BE ADEQUATE
For gatherings of 100 or more guests, insufficient parking ruins the event before it even begins. Always visit the venue in person and count the parking spaces.

4. UNDERSTAND THE FULL COST — NOT JUST THE ROOM RATE
Some venues advertise low room hire fees but attach high minimum food and beverage spending requirements. Always ask for a full cost breakdown including all mandatory spends. Compare total cost, not headline price.

5. BOOK AT LEAST 3 TO 6 MONTHS IN ADVANCE
The best venues in UAE for large community events get fully booked far in advance — especially on weekends. If you have a date in mind, move quickly.
